# How to request a permit
- Open the permit panel
Permits can be viewed from the permit panel in the map view. From the left hand sidebar on the map view, click on the icon to open the permits panel. Click on any permit to view it in the permit summary panel.
- Open the permit creator panel
Near the top of the permit panel you will see the icon. Click on this to open the permit creator panel.
- Request the permit
Once all required fields have been filled in, click Submit to request the permit.
# Request fields
The various permit fields are:
# Type
Select a type from the list of pre-defined permit templates.
# Description
Add a brief description of the intended purpose of this permit.
# Layers
Optionally add layers to this permit. These layers will show up in any map views associated with this permit. You can also click the or icons to toggle alerts for these layers. If the data of a layer with alerts enabled is updated at any point during the permit lifecycle users will be prompted to review the permit before continuing.
TIP
Note that an administrator must designate a layer as being allowed in permits, otherwise it won't be available for selection.
Permit layers may also be assigned at the template category level. These layers cannot be removed or have their alerts enabled value updated.
# Permit area
Define an area that the permit is intended to cover. You can add multiple polygons if required. At least one polygon is necessary to request a permit.
# Valid from
Define a date and time from which you want this permit to be valid. The duration of a permit is defined at the template level.
# Categories
If any categories are assigned to this permit you will need to respond to any prompts which they contain. Click on a category to open it up. Once you are finished responding to the prompts, click "Confirm" to close the dialog. All category prompts must be completed before requesting a permit. You must also select the permit category signoff users for this category.
# Signature requirements
Select the permit signoff users for this permit. This will be pre-filled if there is only one valid selection.
# Attachments
Click the icon to attach files to your permit. These files will be viewable by anyone looking at this permit.
# Options
# Legend layers only
If toggled on, the legend layer on the permit document will hide sublayers by default.
